Burger wins thriller

GINGOOG City – Ronjay Buenafe scored the game-winning basket as Burger King edged out Rain or Shine in a thriller, 91-89,
last night in a KFC-PBA Philippine Cup out-of-town game at the Arturo Lugod gym here.
With the game tied at 89 in the final 5.8 seconds, Buenafe drove strong to the hoop amidst a phalanx of Elasto Painters
defenders, connected on the basket, and had a foul to boot from Jay-R Reyes to shatter the game’s last deadlock with 1.6
seconds remaining.
The former Emilio Aguinaldo College stalwart missed the bonus free throws, but with no timeouts left, Rain or Shine hurriedly
put up a shot from the backcourt, with Gabe Norwood’s desperation attempt hardly hitting the basket.
Buenafe topscored with 22 points for the Whoppers (2-2), who lost grip of a big 18-point lead, trailed by as many as 12, before
getting back their acts in the final minutes to pull off the scrambling win in the road game presented by Phoenix Fuel.
The Elasto Painters remained winless in three starts as they now share the cellar with the Coca-Cola Tigers and the RP-
Smart Gilas.
Ryan Arana had a career-high 25 points for Rain or Shine, but could only split his free throws with five seconds to go to tie the
game for the last time (89-89).
The Whoppers trailed 80-84 with five minutes remaining before Buenafe and Mark Yee sank back-to-back three-pointers in an
9-1 run to grab the upperhand at 89-85.
