Ginebra, sans 2 aces, takes on Smart Gilas
By Musong R. Castillo, Philippine Daily Inquirer
TWO GAMES after sparking Barangay Ginebra to a fine start, Mark Caguioa will have to sit it out again.
The returning 6-foot gunslinger suffers from an inflamed left knee due to patellar tendonitis and has been advised to rest
for at least one week starting with the Gin Kings’ clash with guest squad Smart Gilas today in the KFC-PBA Philippine Cup
eliminations.
Game time is 2:30 p.m. at the Cuneta Astrodome with the Kings heavily favored to win their third straight game.
Alaska tries to keep in step with Ginebra when it collides with Coca-Cola in the nightcap at 7:30 while Purefoods lock horns
with dangerous Barako Bull in the 5 p.m. contest.
Caguioa missed all of last season due to injuries on both knees. Although the new injury is not a recurrence of the old one,
the coaching staff opted to rest Caguioa rather than risk him being forced out of action for a longer period.
Eric Menk, the former MVP, will also be out for at least two weeks because of a broken right small toe, leaving Ginebra
without the two veterans who have given out surprising offensive performances in its first two games.
