The National Collegiate Athletic Association has joined hands in relief efforts to help victims of Tropical Storm “Ondoy” by not
only holding its own fund-raising drive but also by joining the one-day charity game participated in by several basketball
leagues in the country.

League president Fr. Mat de Jesus, OSB, and Management Committee chair Jose Mari Lacson of Season 85 host San Beda
said both the Policy Board and the Mancom decided to reschedule yesterday’s games to Friday to concentrate on this
endeavour.

“The NCAA joins the nation in the recovery of the damages caused by Tropical Storm “Ondoy,” said the league in a statement.

“The league, with the Policy Board leadership together with the Management Committee, reschedules the games of the
second round to allow member schools to participate in joining relief efforts for the victims of ‘Ondoy.’ Games will resume on
Oct. 2,” it added.

The postponed matches pit Mapua against Angeles U Foundation and
reigning three-peat champions San Beda against arch-rival Letran at The
    Arena in San Juan City.

The postponement, the second this week, was done to focus on its own
fund drive as well as the charity basketball game organized by the
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas on Monday at the Araneta Coliseum
where players from the NCAA, Smart Gilas Pilipinas, the Philippine
Basketball Association, the Philippine Basketball League and the UAAP
    are seeing action.

“The NCAA will be joining the fund raising activities of the SBP, together
with the UAAP, for the benefit of typhoon victims,” it said.

The league also encourages its fans and alumni to watch the one-day
    affair.

“The NCAA rejoins the fans and alumni to support this endeavour by watching the Araneta Coliseum game and by bringing
used rubber shoes, sneakers or slippers,” it said.

Lacson said they would practically set up donation boxes around The Arena on Friday and would accept any donations that
they would bring at the Big Dome on Monday.

“We’re passing the hat for donations on Friday. The league already donated 10 sacks of rice to ABS-CBN Foundation and it’s
not going to stop here because the league would extend all the help it could give to victims of this calamity,” he said.
