Barroca-less FEU seeks finals today
Journal Online

opposite University of the East in the Final Four of the UAAP seniors basketball tournament today at the Araneta Coliseum.

Armed with the ‘twice-to-beat’ bonus, the Tamaraws need only to win this game set at 3:30 p.m. to gain a shot at their 20th
championship in the long history of the country’s premier league

But the Tamaraws may enter the court minus Barroca, who has missed a number of FEU practices as he was being
investigated by the school authorities on allegations of game-fixing.

Barroca was the Tamaraws’ leading scorer with 12.7 points average per game in the eliminations, but his norm in the last two
games dipped, raising doubts about his performance.

In the past few days, FEU officials remained silent, but are expected
to issue a statement about Barroca before the game starts.

The Tamaraws finished in second spot with a 11-3 record while the
Red Warriors ended up in third place with a 10-4 record.

Ateneo, which finished on top of the two-round eliminations, meets
University of Santo Tomas in the other half of the semifinal pairing
    starting tomorrow.

“We wanted to continue our winning ways and we are very
determined to end our 24-year title drought,” said UE coach
    Lawrence Chongson.

Aldrech Ramos, who could have won the MVP award if not for FEU’s
loss to defending champion Ateneo in the duel for the ‘Final Four’
top seed, will banner the Morayta cagers’ attack.

Ramos collected 16 points and 16 boards in the Tamaraws’ 73-74
loss to the Blue Eagles at the end of the elimination round.

The Blue Eagles need only to win against the Growling Tigers, the lone squad which has a losing record in the ‘Final Four’, to
achieve their second straight championship appearance.            (Theodore P. Jurado)
